On Earth Overshoot Day 2019, Swarovski Foundation is bringing you a special viewing of “Waterschool” in partnership with Global Footprint Network. “Waterschool” is a documentary that follows six young women who attend Swarovski Waterschool in six different countries along six major rivers: USA (Mississippi), Brazil (Amazon), Austria (Danube), Uganda (Nile), India (Ganges), China (Yangtze). The film addresses different issues around water through the experiences of each young woman, and covers topics around water consumption, pollution, hygiene, sanitation, clean water and deforestation, all of which are essential to support human well-being and our planet’s precious biocapacity.
“We are now using nature 1.75 times as fast as the planet’s ecosystems can regenerate – therefore businesses and individuals must work together to shape a more sustainable future for all,” said Nadja Swarovski, member of the Swarovski Executive Board, and co-producer of the film. “The Swarovski Foundation is delighted to be an official partner of Earth Overshoot Day to promote a global message of responsible resource use. We are also pleased to highlight our company’s wider initiatives supporting education and creating vital change through the inspirational young women featured in our “Waterschool” documentary. Stories and initiatives like this show that together we can create true positive impact.”
Swarovski Foundation supports projects and organizations that promote the conservation, protection and improvement of the physical and natural environment. The Foundation aims to raise awareness and address the most pressing issues that face our finite environment using innovative techniques to approach key issues such as water scarcity around the world. In 2000, the company established Swarovski Waterschool to ensure access to clean water at schools across the globe while educating those communities on proper sanitation, hygiene and water issues. Swarovski Waterschool ultimately seeks to empower children, families and schools everywhere to protect the world’s most precious resource and become leaders in sustainable development.
In honor of Earth Overshoot Day, Swarovski is asking their employees, the educators and students in their network, and Waterschools around the world to participate in a 24-hour global watch party of the “Waterschool” documentary on July 29th and to take action in their communities. Global Footprint Network invites you to join the watch party! If you are an educator interested in seeing “Waterschool” and bringing it to your school, please contact WaterschoolScreenings@gmail.com and they will send you a private viewing link for your classroom.
