With 60% of the world population projected to live in urban areas by 2030 and as much as 80% by 2050, the global effort for sustainability will be won, or lost, in the world’s cities. How we plan and develop our cities is therefore instrumental to balancing the supply of natural capital and population’s demand.
Tell your city leader(s) you care about sustainability and want your city to enact policies to help #MoveTheDate of Earth Overshoot Day.
Go to your city’s website, and find out more about its environmental policy and commitment. Identify what specific issue you want to support (renewable energy, recycling, adequate public transportation, green buildings, urban agriculture,…) Find out how to contact your local officials. Email them, tweet them, send them a letter, call them! If you email them, please include Global Footprint Network in the blind carbon copy (media@footprintnetwork.org) so we know you took this important step!
We are counting all the steps taken to #MoveTheDate. More steps mean more impact.
